Dear members of the ABSG neuro.

On December 9th 2023, we have an online lecture ready for you on  "Behind closed curtains - the unmet potential of sleep for the rehabilitation of Parkinson's disease" by Prof. Moran Gilat, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, KU Leuven.

In his talk he will detail the functionality of sleep in general, how sleep is affected by ageing and Parkinson's disease (PD), how sleep disorders are currently being treated, the current role of a physical therapist to help manage sleep disorders in PD, and finally the unmet potential to utilize the power of sleep to aid the rehabilitation of PD patients. The aim is to open up the curtains to a new line of translational research on the sleep-motor interaction in PD.

This presentation is followed by the two award winning masterthesisses of the ABSGneuro:

THE ROLE OF BALANCE CONFIDENCE IN GAIT REHABILITATION IN PERSONS WITH A LESION OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM: preliminary findings, by Sarah Steenackers.

and

TECHNOLOGY-SUPPORTED SITTING BALANCE TRAINING IN THE SUB-ACUTE PHASE AFTER STROKE: a feasibility and pilot randomized controlled trial by Charlotte Heremans and Tim Maurissens.
